Create an envelope for this tax year.

I know it’s early in the year, but go ahead and create an envelope or folder for this tax year (2016), and put it in your safe or filing cabinet.  The reason I suggest doing so early is that I highly recommend putting pay stubs, documentation of charitable contributions and donations, and receipts for tax deductible expenses  in it now so that you can easily find them next year.

Time required:  Less than five minutes, even including making a computer-generated label.
