Put all military records, challenge coins, and dog tags in a safe place.

My husband was active duty military, and keeping his records where we can find them is important.  Keeping his challenge coins and dog tags in a safe location so they can be handed down to our child(ren) is also important to us.  So we put them in our safe.  I would recommend you do the same and put them in your safe or a safe deposit box.  I would also recommend that you scan paper records such as a DD Form 214; we keep two copies–one redacted, one not–on our hard drive.

Time required:  Five minutes, but I had all of these items where these were easily located.
